Lodging Information
The 2014 VRA Conference will be held at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center. Please contact the hotel directly to coordinate lodging for the conference. Remember to ask for the “Virginia Recycling Association” rate when making reservations. You must book your room by April 21 to guarantee the room block rate.

Membership Special
Save $25 off VRA membership when renewing or initiating a membership as a conference attendee.  You will also save $50 on the conference registration rate.

VRA Scholarship Golf Tournament - Monday, May 12
Proceeds fund the Debbie Devine Scholarship that supports recycling and solid waste professional with grants to attend the conference. Join industry colleagues in a friendly golf tournament at the Ole Monterey Golf Club golf course. Play is Captain’s Choice. Shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. May 12. The cost is $65 per player which includes cart, greens fee, practice range balls, dinner, and tax.  You may pay for the tournament online, but you must still fill out your golf details on the registration form and send or FAX in to VRA.  Location: 201 Tinker Creek Lane, Roanoke, VA 24019

  • Optional Dinner Monday Night - Corned Beef
    Monday, May 12 at 6:00 p.m. 
    Let’s meet up at a Roanoke restaurant on Monday night! This is totally optional, but we have reservations made at Corned Beef, 107 S. Jefferson St.. It’s a few blocks from the Hotel Roanoke and offers a large menu of fine American cuisine.
  • Roanoke Valley Resource Authority and Smith Gap Landfill (total time 3 to 4 hours)
    Monday, May 12 10:00—2:00 p.m.
    The Roanoke Valley Resource Authority joined forces with Norfolk Southern in an innovative public-private partnership to handle 700 tons of trash each day. This regional public-private partnership is the first project in the United States that uses rail as the sole transportation link between a solid waste transfer station and a landfill. Tour includes stops at Tinker Creek Transfer Station, the Smith Gap Landfill and the Waste Line Express train.
  • Downtown Roanoke Business Recycling Tour (total time 1 to 2 hours)
    Monday, May 12 3:00—5:00 p.m.
    Space constraints make it difficult to recycling in businesses in urban locations. Take a walking tour of the downtown Roanoke business district and see how several businesses including restaurants are recycling.
  • Coca-Cola Bottling Plant (1—2 hours)
    Tuesday, May 13 3:00—5:00 p.m..
    The city of Roanoke participates in the Coca-Cola Recycling & Win contest that encourages residents to recycle with an awards program. Residents caught recycling the right way are awarded gift certificates from participating grocery stores. Tour will take place at a local Coca-Cola bottling facility.
